Every era has its icons. Lionel Messi won the Ballon d'Or eight times and remains the record goalscorer of FC Barcelona, with 672 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo won it five times and became the all-time top scorer of Real Madrid. Messi is also the only player to have won the World Cup Golden Ball twice, and Ronaldo has won more caps than any other man.

Belgium has its own legends. Eden Hazard won 126 caps and the Silver Ball at the 2018 World Cup, where the Red Devils finished third. Kevin De Bruyne won six Premier League titles with Manchester City, and Vincent Kompany lifted the trophy four times as the club's captain. Since 2024 Kompany has been head coach of Bayern Munich.
